Litecoin (LTC) Overview
Advantages of Using Litecoin (LTC)
Drawbacks of Using Litecoin (LTC)
Litecoin is well suited to sportsbook payments, but there are still some drawbacks compared with stablecoins and newer payment networks.
- Price volatility – LTC can move significantly against fiat currencies. A betting bankroll held in Litecoin can therefore gain or lose value independently of betting results.
- Slower than newer networks – Litecoin’s 2.5-minute target block time is considerably faster than Bitcoin’s, but much slower than networks capable of reaching finality within seconds. A sportsbook’s own confirmation requirements can extend the time before a deposit becomes available.
- No native stable value – Litecoin was designed as digital money rather than a stablecoin. Bettors who prefer to track their bankroll closely in dollars may find USDT or USDC more convenient, particularly when funds remain on a sportsbook for longer periods.
- Limited functionality beyond payments – Litecoin has deliberately remained focused on peer-to-peer payments rather than developing the extensive smart-contract ecosystems found on networks such as Ethereum. This isn’t a problem for straightforward sportsbook deposits, but gives LTC less utility for bettors interested in wider on-chain betting applications.
