Sportsbooks That Support Gram
Gram Overview
Gram (GRAM) is the native cryptocurrency of The Open Network (TON), a high-speed Layer 1 blockchain with unusually close ties to Telegram. Until June 2026, the cryptocurrency was known as Toncoin (TON), before the community approved a return to the original Gram name and the ticker GRAM. The change was a rebrand rather than a new cryptocurrency: existing balances, wallet addresses and transaction histories remained unchanged.
The story behind the coin goes back much further. Telegram founders Pavel and Nikolai Durov originally developed the Telegram Open Network, with Gram intended to be its native cryptocurrency. After a legal battle with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Telegram ended its involvement with the project in 2020. Independent developers subsequently continued the technology as The Open Network, while the cryptocurrency became known as Toncoin before eventually reclaiming the Gram name in 2026.
Today, TON operates as a Proof-of-Stake blockchain designed around fast, inexpensive transactions and large-scale applications. Current network figures published by TON put transaction finality at around 0.6 seconds and the average transaction fee at approximately $0.0005. GRAM is used to pay network fees, participate in validation and staking, and interact with applications throughout the TON ecosystem.
What makes GRAM particularly distinctive is its relationship with Telegram. TON technology is integrated into an ecosystem with access to more than one billion Telegram users, including wallets, payments and Mini Apps. Telegram also uses GRAM for features including advertising revenue payouts, giving the cryptocurrency a direct role inside one of the world’s largest messaging platforms.
Those payment characteristics also make GRAM interesting for crypto sports betting. Sub-second settlement and extremely small network fees are well suited to moving betting funds, while Telegram’s enormous crypto community provides a natural audience for operators supporting the currency. GRAM is still much less established as a sportsbook payment option than Bitcoin or major stablecoins, but its combination of speed, low fees and deep Telegram integration gives it a very different proposition from most cryptocurrencies used for online betting.
Advantages of Using Gram
Drawbacks of Using Gram
GRAM has strong technical characteristics for payments, but its position within crypto sports betting is still developing compared with more established currencies.
- Limited sportsbook adoption – GRAM is not yet a standard payment option across crypto sportsbooks. Bettors specifically wanting to use it will generally have fewer choices than those using BTC, ETH or major stablecoins.
- Price volatility – GRAM is not pegged to a fiat currency, so the value of a sportsbook bankroll held in GRAM can fluctuate independently of betting results.
- Heavy reliance on the TON ecosystem – Much of GRAM’s appeal comes from TON and its close integration with Telegram. Bettors who do not already use TON-compatible wallets or Telegram’s crypto ecosystem may find more universally supported cryptocurrencies more convenient.
- Recent rebrand can cause confusion – The change from Toncoin (TON) to Gram (GRAM) means sportsbooks, wallets, exchanges and informational services may not all update their terminology simultaneously. During the transition, users may encounter both names when looking for supported currencies or transfer information.
